Adorable Art Birthday Party

This weekend Little B and I had a fun time celebrating my sweet niece's birthday!  My sister-in-law made a FABULOUS art pallet cake.  Isn't it DARLING!  She's SUPER creative!

 

Running the length of the dining room table was a huge display of acrylic paints...and in keeping with the theme, she had an assortment of paint swatch samples hanging from the chandelier!  As we awaited the arrival of all the guests, she had pictures of different famous artists and passed these around to the girls and together they discussed different elements in the art samples and special touches that made each artist unique.  The conversation was way more in depth than I expected!  So impressive! 

Once the girls all arrived, they each gathered around the dining room table and found a blank canvas awaiting an artist to express amazing creativity!  As the girls layered the white canvas with their favorite color, we found that the background spread much easier when the sponge applicator and/or brush was a bit damp. 

My sister-in-law had to wrap up the painting after an hour to make sure there was time for the rest of the party!  I'm pretty sure the little girls would have painted for at least another hour!  Each canvas was totally unique and expressed their little personalities perfectly!   I was totally amazed by their abilities!  The party also included, a darling bookmark craft using paint swatches, beads and cording!  And a fun activity where the girls lay down on their bellies in a circle and as my sister-in-law instructed, they passed their papers with their names on them around the circle.  With each pass of the papers, the girls would draw the next feature of their friend on the paper in front of them.  For example, they all drew the nose on the paper in front of them, then they'd pass the paper two times and had a different friend's paper.  This time they all draw the eyes on the paper in front of them.  And so on and so forth until each little girl had a portraits drawn, with each feature having been drawn by a different artist!  There were LOTS of giggles during this cute game!!!

Little B was so proud of the sweet card she made for her little cousin!  And her precious cousin totally appreciated the artwork, afterall, her cousin is totally into art {hence the art-themed birthday party}.

Little B picked out a best friend necklace and a Webkinz Glamorous Gorilla for her sweet cousin! It was obviously the perfect gift for a darling little eight year old!  She made a sweet little squeal of delight!  There were lots of other great gifts, too.  One little girl gave her a canvas bag with a K on it and filled the canvas bag with totally fun art supplies, like foamy stickers, yarn, fabric, etc.  Another little girl selected some super cute pjs for her.  And another little girl gifted her with a Target gift card, which she was totally excited to receive!!!  {I love paying attention to the gifts, because I'm always on the lookout for new creative gift ideas}.

This was such a fabulous party for girls of any age!  And not only did they get to take home their beautiful masterpieces, they also had a goodie bag filled with a little notepad, pencil and eraser, essential pieces for every little artist!
