Simple Word Art {DIY}

I saw these cute 'Mr. and Mrs.' pillows in my
Ballard Designs catalog and LOVED them...
I always think 'Mr. and Mrs.' decor is SUPER CUTE!

Year round I use a white coverlet! But seasonally, I change things up a bit!  In Spring, I love to combine a quilt with a bit of color along with my White Coverlet and in Winter, I compliment my White Coverlet with Restoration Hardware Gray bedding {which I found on Craigslist for $40 - YEP, king-sized bedding in mint condition}!

I totally LOVE the burlap pillows, but I don't think they'd work with my gray winter textiles!  Maybe they'd be a good contrast with my Spring bedding?!!  I'm making myself wait at least another month before switching to my Spring bedding, despite it totally feeling like Spring here!  Did you see my awesome blooms {in February}...loving them! {here}
Yes, once again, I'm so glad we saved our scrap fence wood!  {here}  I absolutely LOVE using reclaimed wood!  Did you seem my inspiration pieces yet?!?  Too die for! {here}  I still haven't figured out what to do with my newest Fabulous Curbside find yet.  I'm totally waiting for the idea to come to me!  So glad you all are LOVING it, too -- thanks lots for the sweet notes and suggestions!!!  {here}

February is 'Love' month!  I totally wanted to put a little love into our bedroom this month!  We've been working on the kitchen and living room and the kids rooms and on and on...time for a little touch in our room, right!!!
I was thinking above our bed would be a great place to start!!!  I have LOTS of ideas for painting signs and this is one I'd been considering for a while...now seemed like the perfect time!  Uncommon had a similar idea that I loved. {here}  Stud helped me cut down old fence slats into 18 inch length strips...three per art canvas!  Then he was off to mow and I adjoined the boards with furniture backing and an air gun.  And finished throwing them together by hammering a little hanging hook strip.
Then I flipped the boards over...a little spackle...a lot of caulk...several damp paper towels because I'm a totally messy caulker...a bit of primer because my wood was dried out to the max!  With the behind the scene work complete, I grabbed my favorite DIY accessory {spray paint} and went to town!!!  I chose the high gloss white paint for this piece!  My style is a conflicting combination of modern country and this just totally worked!!!

 My little sign needed a bit of pretty so I grabbed a piece of felt and cut three long and thin strips.  I twisted those strips and twisted them some more and then wrapped the twisted strips in a spiral until I had a cute little flower!  Really Cute...but it still needed a little more!  I grabbed one of my red necklaces and wrapped it around the sign...perfect fit!  And finally, I was smiling!
I totally love it when Stud's impressed with my little projects, too!  He came in from mowing {yes, in February...I'm not really loving that part of the Spring weather} and was totally thinking I ROCK!  Sweet, right!  I need to keep my eyes open and my mind spinning so I continue to add fun touches to our room!
Moving from a brand new house {here} where everything is totally updated and really nice...to a ranch style '50s house {here} that totally needs to be gutted has definitely been lots of work, but the warm fuzzies you get from each step along the way is totally addicting!!

Any suggestions on what else I should add above the bed to make the look more complete!?!?  Black and White wedding picture displayed in a unique way between the two signs?!?!  Hmmm??!  Have you seen any SUPER CUTE bedroom ideas that would totally inspire me more!??!  Oh the possibilities...that's what makes DIYing and Decorating TONS of FUN, right!!!  Especially when you only have to spend $3 on letters {I love that with my iPhone, I always have a Hobby Lobby coupon on my phone!}
Cheers to a prettier room this Valentine's Day!!!
I'll chat with you more tomorrow...because you know
I love catching up with you EVERY day!!!

  21. Oh wow, Aimee!!!! They turned out REALLY cute! I love the addition of the flower to your sign! And your BED!!! I dream of having a bed like that!!! It's beautiful!!! We hope to get a king size bed when we eventually make it to the master bedroom portion of our remodel. :o)

    I am kicking myself....big time. One of the original owners of our home had built a pergola type thing next to the house. When we moved in, it was falling apart and the whole thing was leaning. We tore it down and used some of the wood for parts of our chicken coop, but then we BURNED the rest! Argh! After seeing your signs, I realize I could have done so much with that old wood!!!

  23. I somehow managed to click on your tutorial, the last few weeks in a row. You obviously have some great ideas! I like the idea of adding a wedding pic. I just switched out an old framed pic for a canvas wedding print in our room, and I love looking at it every night. Good reminder of that happy day! I also thought hanging an old watch on the corner of the MR might be cute; just my 2 cents. Thanks for sharing and keep those great ideas flowing!

  34. we too moved from a 1915 Arts & Crafts home with awesome but simple and wide woodwork..leaded glass built ins and so on....to a 1950's ranch home with no character! Been busy the last 2 1/2 years adding loads of character. My style is modern farmhouse bungalow. I love these signs...very chic but rustic!
