DIY Kitchen {White -ish Granite Options}

March 13, 2012 by 15 Comments

This was our second time searching out granite for our kitchen remodel.  The first time we were a little overwhelmed and the decision took a lot longer because I wanted to check out every stone distributor within a 30 mile radius.  LOL!  Yep, and we did!  And then comparing one granite slab with another granite slab at another fabricator was next to impossible!  Head spinning, let me tell you!
Kitchen Option 1: Bianco Romano Granite Slab
 {It’s Overflowing}
{It’s Overflowing}
This round went a lot smoother.  You see, what I’ve come to learn is that as many “names” as there are for granite, many slabs of granite are so similar, nearly impossible to distinguish between.  In this house, I knew that I wanted a white granite again.  I love how much white countertops brighten the kitchen!  I also love that fingerprints are impossible to see on white granite!  Perfect for my thirty little helping fingers!
Kitchen Option 2: White Delicatus Granite Slab

{Granite Gurus}

{Oak Ridge Revival}

As similar as one name to the next may be in granite, I think it’s an absolute must to visit a couple fabricators and pick out the right piece for your kitchen!  It’s a large purchase and no two slabs are the same.  In fact, the color variance between this time around and our last remodel had changed quite a bit for the Bianco Romano.  So much so…I knew I wanted something different!  The more you familiarize yourself with granite, the easier your decision will be.  I love looking closely at the true colors found in a small 6 inch by 6 inch piece of granite, but also to look at friends and magazines and see what the granite looks like on cabinets similar to your coloring and next to flooring is very helpful.

Kitchen Option 3:  Kashmir White Granite Slab
{Cashmere White, Cashmire White, Bianco Kashmere White, Kashmere White}

{Our Fine House}

{Simple Beautiful Home}

Many granites are called white and yet white wasn’t their dominant color!?!?  This granite shopping trip, when my eyes locked in on the White River Granite, I knew it was the one for me!  It had less red, purple and yellow splotches.  Much more white and tons more swirl and movement, which I love.  Stud wasn’t busy playing on his iPhone thinking that eternity was going to pass and I think he nearly dropped his phone on the hard marble floor when he heard me say sold!  LOL!  I tell you, the more you research, the easier the decision is!  If you’re leaning towards the white family of granite, here are a few so you can have an idea how the granite slabs transfer into kitchen countertops.  I’m so visual…hopefully this will help you, too.

Kitchen Option 4: River White Granite Slab
{Valley White, White Spring}

    I love your choice! It is perfect and exactly what I would have chosen! I love the movement and it reminds me of marble but without the upkeep. Beautiful!

  4. do you like carrera? i love all of these! river white is my fave!

  5. Great choice! We went with white marble, but we also had to check out every place and compare slabs to find the perfect one (or 7 in our case!) Can’t wait to see more, I’m loving your kitchen series:)

  6. Great choice, Aimee! I’m not a homeowner but remember going with my bro and sil as we checked out so many slabs of granite for their very large kitchen. She wanted something with black but with so much counter space, wanted to make sure it didn’t start to look like a black lake running through the space! lol She didn’t trust my brother’s level of interest, thus I was brought along. It was fun and took about 2 months and 6 trips to find what she wanted. The result was beautiful and she smiled every time she walked in her kitchen. Hope your results bring you that same smile.
    You’ve also been FEATURED at my Frugal Treasures Tuesday party! Thanks and hope you’ll link again this week.

  7. I love your choice and although I’m not a huge granite fan I definitely think I could do the whites. I am going through the same thing with tile right now for a backsplash, I don’t think I can make a decision until I see them all!

    Beautiful granite, what’s not to love. This is a great and helpful post to be able to view them in one place, thank you for sharing. I want to re do my kitchen counters, well someday and looking at these helped in deciding color. I’m visiting from Uncommonly Yours Linky.

  11. Very pretty…I’m still debating what we will do down the line. We just have formica right now but I love white corian counters!

    • I love No.3, the Kashmir White granite, I have one very similar and yeah, I love it cause it gives light to the kitchen. When we remodled our old kitchen was white and had black granite and so it was tiring…now, our kitchen has wooden cabinets and light counter tops. I’d love to see it when it’s all finishes, can’t wait! Hope you visit.
