Entry Room: Board and Batten Wall

My Entry Room: Board and Batten Wall with Hooks for Our Guest {and us through winter} is FINISHED…well, almost! I need to add a few pretty touches, but I have to say, it definitely has some GOOD Bones!
It looks so “polished” without even a single touch of bling or pretty! I love taking a totally unused wall and giving it a purpose…a pretty purpose! Here are the cliff notes on how the board and batten went up!!!
This is pretty much standard for all of our projects! We’re both VERY MUCH Visual Processors, so we measure the wood that we’re planning on using, since wood measurements that hardware stores use are ever true to size. Why?!? I have no idea! Then we grab our level and tape measure and do a little art project on the wall! For as often as we do this, it’s amazing that our kids don’t draw all over their walls…hopefully I’m not speaking too soon!!!
I’ve seen a lot of tutorials on board and batten that with a coat of paint, the trim pieces alone definitely look GREAT without messing with the rest of the process. I thought we’d go the easy route, too and not worry about the details….Four Boards Later…Um, Honey, Um, I think it’s not quite looking right. To which he reminded me that he’d told me that it wasn’t going to look right! Ha. Should have listened I guess!
Sweet man that he is….measured and cut four pieces of 1/8 inch thick furniture backing board that was laying around in the garage and helped me get the look I was wanting! In hinds sight, I definitely recommend covering the complete wall with backing and then adding the trim…just sayin’…at least if you’re a little bit…. um…at times…particular!?!
Maybe if our walls didn’t have so much texture!?!
The crow’s foot definitely has depth!

A Lot of Primer!
I’m loving it with the touch of my Restoration Hardware Hook Splurge! Hahaha…sometimes the jewelry is just what makes the outfit, right!!? I did look at several hardware and craft stores before deciding this was my only choice!
Totally love the industrial feel to this satin nickel hook! Love it! Yes, I do have a thing for Restoration Hardware accessories…see here.
Want to see more great tutorials for board and batten? Check out this handy diagram over at This Old House. Now how to decorate with Board and Batten…here are a few ideas I’m holding onto! {and there are even more board and batten examples are found here}

I adore board and batten treatments, and yours turned out great! And the jewelry totally makes it
I’m such a fan of board and batten. Hope to some day add it to our house, somewhere! Love the hooks you went with!
I can tell it will be marvelous.
Wow! Turned out great! So talented!
Oh, I can’t wait to see the big reveal! You do such amazing things! I want to live in your home, actually.
Lovely! And great idea to sketch it out first! Board and batten has made its way into my home as well, and I love it! I hope it’s as timeless as I think it will be.
. Well done!
Aimee, it looks wonderful. And I, too, found inspiration in many of the photos you share when I added B&B to my entry and powder room (with more planned). And I, too, have the very same hooks in my entry!
I guess great minds think alike … or more like great minds find inspiration from Centsational Girl who first used those hooks in her B&B project!
Linda
Thanks Linda!!! Definitely great minds think a like!!! Who doesn’t have a major crush on Restoration Hardware?!?! You, Me, Centsational Girl…the list is long! That store totally ROCKS!!! XO, Aimee
this looks wonderful! You must be so happy with it. Your home is turning into the pages of Home Beautiful– first the kitchen and now this entry! I like the idea of the furniture backing board instead of plywood. I wouldn’t have thought of that. Great job!
I like the board and batting-can’t wait to see how you decorate the rest
It looks fantastic already!! Can’t’ wait to see how you finish it off!
It looks great!
Beautiful job!! Megan
Beautiful! I love your hooks and the solution for the textured wall – you did a fantastic job, Aimee (and Mr. Overflowing!)
It looks great! Good idea to cover your textured wall with a board. I am DYING to do some B&B by my stairs. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am loving this. I intend to do the same thing, once we get his mom into her own mother-in-law apartment and I can start in on the main house. Deep breath. Patience, Kathy.

Great job, can’t wait to see the rest of the story. I am so impressed with your DIY talent!!
Very nice! Adding the backing was such a great and necessary idea. I think the textured walls might have ruined your vision. Good job to you and the hubby!
Aimee!!! I wonder if I could do something like this in my little hallway?! Love it!

Thanks for the inspiration and the advice about the backing board. I am going to tackle our front hallway this summer and am trying to read as much as I can about it. Of course the design I have chosen is quite finicky but I figure if I am going to spend the time on it then I might as well go big LOL!
I simply LOVE this. Bythewayjenngray.blogspot.com
Love this wall!
I want to do something like this in my entryway!
Oh my goodness… the wall looks fabulous and those hooks are to die for! Can’t wait until you add your last little pretties!
Take care,
Trish
Aimee, this looks amazing! Good call with inserting the boards in between…I have seen so much of this done and always thought it would look weird unless you had untextured walls! Who has untextured walls?? And, the little hooks are to die for!!
Have a good weekend!

Love board and batten! Like how you added a backing, I don’t think it has the same effect without it. Looks so good. Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration over at Sunday’s Best!

This has been on my to-do list for my hallway forEVER! If only I could get my hubby on board!
And, I’ve always wondered about the textured wall issue! This definitely helps me make my decision for the future!
Beautiful! This adds so much character.

I’ve been a big fan of B&B for some time, but haven’t gotten the guts to try it out myself. Yours looks great!
I have to get those hooks now! I’m doing b & b in my entry too. I love how you did double rows of hooks
