Do all Anthropologie stores have the same merchandise!? Decor!? Our store has the cutest Home Sweet Home Wall Art hung above some of their super cute painted tea cups that makes me smile every time I see it. I finally decided it was time to make a sign for my house, too. I went to Half Priced Books and saw every map under the moon, with exception to a local one. I mean seriously not a single Texas map…I guess most that live
here know how to get around and the rest of the population has GPS! A bit bummed, I gave the idea up.
A week later I was sitting and watching some TV with Stud and I had a thought…didn’t…hmmm…I remember an old map in the mix of papers at closing. I opened my file cabinet…click here if you haven’t read about where I file my papers. And with just a bit of digging I found this. I’m not sure what the year is…but I know that it’s definitely not a recent map. Many streets aren’t included…love that!
I keep a stash of cardboard…I grabbed a large piece and a pencil. After writing HOME, I cut it out and lined it up on the map. I used a new blade on my exacto knife and cut out HOME on the map. Then repeated by writing HOME on top.
As I was working on tracing, and cutting, Stud went out to the garage and grabbed a strip of wood and cut a frame for me. He used a simple 45 degree cut on the miter saw and some scrap wood became a nice basic frame.
I looked at my example and used a pencil followed by a marker to write the word ‘Sweet’ real cute. This was the trickiest part because pencil on maps does not show up very well. No worries though, I was able to erase and work on it until I got it just as I wanted. I place some blue stationary paper under each of the cut out HOMEs. We glued the map to a thin board and then sandwiched the frame on top with a staple gun. For a final touch, I drew a heart over our house address. I didn’t think showing my heart placement on the web would be too brilliant.
And there it is…as you walk in the front door into the entry and then into the family room…just a few steps in is my fun sign. Lots of smiles from this mommy!
