Subtle Color Blocking: Dresser Makeover

I told you a few weeks ago that I’m LOVING
the Color Block Look, especially with Furniture!
Contrasting colors is definitely a popular trend and I’ve been
real excited to give it a try with a dresser I’ve had forever!
A few years ago, this dresser had a dark stain with matching dark stained knobs. It was in my boys bedroom at our old house. Their room at the time was real small so I only bought one dresser. I’ve regretted that decision ever since! My boys outgrew this dresser very fast, their clothes aren’t itty bitty anymore! I switched my craft dresser with my boys’ dresser, so now this dresser chills in the family room with our dark couches and until recently, our dark fireplace and dark paneling. All the darkness, I almost immediately changed it’s color to Sherwin Williams North Star, which ended up being a little too sweet for our family room. Thankfully, Sherwin Williams sells pint size samples for just $5 so switching colors is guilt-free!
I decided on a taupe color instead, Sherwin Williams Chatroom. I liked this color a lot….so much that I painted two of my mirrors on the mantel the same color. It’s a great taupe color…I’ve enjoyed it for almost a year! Recent I was ready for a little change. I always prefer sticking to non-trendy basic decor elements and adding splashes of texture and interest to the pieces in the room that are easily changed, like this dresser.
Glidden Eloquent Ivory
I like to subtly add trendy elements to my house, but definitely steer clear of jumping in with both feet! Although I totally appreciate adventurous decorating on blogs and in magazines, I like my home to be peaceful with just a subtle suggestion of the latest fads. I love the touch of color blocking on my newly painted dresser. Both paints I already had at the house. The Luminious White color is from our recent kitchen makeover and the Eloquent Ivory color is the paint I used on the walls throughout my home.
My living areas are open concept so I decided to stick with the same satin nickel knobs that I used on my kitchen cabinets. This dresser brings a sleek and fresh look to the room. It’s clean, simplistic lines combined with a subtle sophisticated paint makes my heart beat fast!
And I’m totally loving this dresser with my new crate, tinted bottles and recently updated everyday mirror turned window-pane mirror!
The pink roses….I like to call them vintage…they’ve been
flourishing since 1956, the same year this house was built!
They have the most amazingly sweet fragrance!
What’s blooming around you!?!?
I just love it when areas of my house start to come together!
Next: I’ve been working on our Entry Room…
can’t wait to show you our latest updates!
Here is a BIG hint!
I have a few details to finish….wish me luck!
Which area of your house are you focused on decorating right now?!?

So pretty Aimee! I love the color you used!
I love it!
Love it! I’ve been attempting to break free form my computer and go paint some furniture for my guest room, just have to actually motivate myself to change into painting clothes and do it:) Other than that, I’m focused outside, now that the weather is nice, veggie garden, planters, outdoor rugs… Looking forward to your entry.
