Home Tours: English Cottage from The Holiday

Have you been following the Olympics!!? Team USA has been blasting it majorly, I am so proud. Even still, I can’t help, but totally crush on England! Are you pausing the DVR every time Kate Middleton is on the screen?! I’m crossing my fingers that she’ll write a book on ‘How to be the CUTEST thing, EVER?!’ Watching the open ceremonies, I was reminded of England’s great depth of literature, culture, and history. And then, I thought…oh my goodness, The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet…I need to rent that movie! The whole time I watched it, I found myself dreaming of calling the English Cottage from The Holiday, my home! The Holiday was filmed back in 2006. It’s amazing to me that cottage style never seems outdated.
We’re on our 21st day of triple digit heat here in Texas…that snow looks so nice! Summer has been fun…now on to the next season!
These ceiling beams and window trim above each window add a great natural element to this (made to look old) home.
I love the fireplace with shelves above…and the sink…oh and the cabinet color! Perfection!
This room has so many layers and textiles, I love it.
The armoire is screaming ‘Copy Me!’ Did you notice the rug lined staircase?! I’m totally digging stripes these days!
And the table above with the robin egg blue legs with a wooden top is totally English Cottage Dreamy!
The unpredictable arrangement of these books is so inviting.
This room is so cozy, I am obsessed! Doesn’t every bedroom need a fireplace!?! The ceiling…oh my goodness…those beams! And that robin egg blue desk with the most perfect basket ever underneath totally rocks my world!
The bathroom looks perfect for a magazine or movie set, but I’m thinking for real life, I probably wouldn’t duplicate. That tub doesn’t exactly scream cozy, right! But, the floor, now that is AWESOME!
It’s been years since I’ve traveled Europe! I totally want to go back. Any opinions on the perfect age to travel overseas with kids? One of my friends has set the goal to take their kids to all fifty states and then take a trip to Europe. I think that’s brilliant!
This home is so gorgeous! These and even more pictures from this cozy cottage can be found on a German website, Out-Now. If you have a house tour you’d like to share on It’s Overflowing, send me a line at itsoverflowing {at} gmail {dot} com.

Sigh. One of my all-time favorite movies. One of my all-time favorite spaces. So much goodness in one post.
Oh, I love this movie, so it 3 times and I own it…now that you remind me.. Loving how pretty you shared the images of everyroom and yes, I love this cottage, so cozy and lovely with all that C’mas snow too!! I love Cameron Diaz too, she’s such fun! I’m rooting at the Olimpics, specially for the USA, (I am American) and for GB too. Enjoy your week.
FABBY
Isn’t it a shame that the cottage was only built for the movie and then pulled down after- such a waste!
I think you look alot like Cameron Diaz. In fact, before I scrolled down the post, I thought the photo was you The Holiday is one of my very favorite movies. Love every corner of the cottage! Sweet!
Bonnie, You are so sweet! Thanks for the fun comparison!!! Tight hugs to you for confusing me with Cameron Diaz for a brief moment!!! It’s such a fabulous movie for sure!!!
XO, Aimee
I watch The Holiday every year at Christmas- it is my very own little tradition! Cheers! And hope it cools off for you!
As strange as it may sound….I’ll take the ceiling!

Mmmmmm. Dreamy, for sure.

Love this post! And loved that movie! You pointed out things to me that I totally had missed in that cottage so today on my way home from the dr’s., I am going to pick up the movie to watch tonight. xoxo
Thanks for taking me back to that scrumptious place! You can do the stair rug on he cheap! Striped rugs are usually available at dirt cheap prices because they are made from the leftover fibers. We bought some for 34 cents/ sq ft! I can only hope to finish our home fabulously enough for a tour!
I’ve been staying up so late to watch the Olympics! It’s starting to wear on me. I loved that movie and the little cottage. So cute!
I just found this post and I couldn’t agree more! I LOVE The Holiday! I own it and watch it throughout the year…every year!
And I would SO love to stay in that cottage! Ugh, it’s just so cute and cozy! I’ve never been to England, or Europe for that matter, but would love to make it over there in my lifetime!
By the way, I’m a new follower!

Wow, so warm and cozy. And what a tub! Thanks for the inspiration
You might enjoy Bedlam in the Backseat by Janet Gillespie, an account of her family sabbatical in Europe during the 1950s.
I know of another one in the same vintage, but can’t recall the title now.
All I did while watching that movie was stare at the interiors of both their dwellings. The cottage had such a cozy vibe.
I’ve never seen that movie, but that was a beautiful cottage or set as it probably was. Thanks for sharing so I could see it. I so love seeing beautiful cottages of all kinds.
Hi, I came over from Cindy’s My Romantic Home because this looked interesting. Can you imagine I’ve never seen this movie? I have it, though. I bought it on DVD. And you know why? It’s because I love the interiors on anything Nancy Meyers writes or directs (Father of The Bride, the to-die-for beach house in Something’s Gotta Give with Diane Keaton, etc.). I was crushed to know that beach house interior was a set, just like someone else here said the cottage in The Holiday was a movie set. Because it’s wonderful! Thanks for sharing the interior scenes. I’m adding your blog to my faves and I’ll visit again.
When can I move it?! That is my kind of cozy house! I love the touch of red and blue. Neutral, but not bland. Such great textures. I am going to have to study these closer and see how I can get some of that cozy in my home! Thanks for sharing! I might just have to rent that movie tonight! One of my all-time favorites!
I took my kids by myself to France the first time when they were 3 and 5. We rented a house and had a great time. Eorope is really easy with kids. Now taking a 5 year old to Bangkok alone? I did that too and would NOT recommend it. The traffic is very dangerous.
gorgeous! Love that home.
Hello – I’m a new reader from the UK, and if you do want to visit the UK, I can so give you good advice of where to go outside of London! There are some many lovely places and stately homes that we have over here…and you can rent cottages like this too! I love it in the UK.
And we’re SO proud of how the Olympics went!
Love your website! Cat x
It is rare to see a treasure like the interior of this house. So warm and inviting like an old friend. I have watched this movie many times just to revisit this gem.
