My Boys Bedroom Decor

September 10, 2012 by 50 Comments

I’m excited to show you how my boys bedroom decor came together after completing many DIY projects!  A few months ago we changed their bunks into side by side beds, bought new mattresses and changed out their bedding.  I did some brainstorming about coming up with a designer look for a knockoff price (here).

Having their beds close together (only separated by a small nightstand) affords them lots of floor space for lego building and car racing.  The little nightstand is from IKEA, as is the wall mounted lights above each bed.  I told you I was digging those lights back when we went ‘virtural window shopping‘ together at IKEA the other day.

Flag banner tutorial (here). Burlap matted definition frame tutorial (here).

Below the nightstand is my boys’ favorite of their room decor, an acrylic tub filled with balls!  Stud built the boys the wall mounted trophy shelves a few years ago.  They used to span the length of their dresser, but for this space, we cut them down.

Keeping consistent with other room elements, I created a baseball card bulletin board for easy grab…easy store!  And the canvas baseball picture is displayed above the bookshelves that Stud made (here).  The canvas picture began as a flat piece of artwork and I mount it real easily and for a great price like this (here)!

I had planned on purchasing a huge fun-colored area rug for their room to replace the cream, living room style rug that was in here prior.  When I pulled the old rug out of the way to start brainstorming it’s replacement, my boys began singing my praises!  “Legos work so much better now!”  “This is awesome….please leave it this way…please!”  For as long as my boys are lego engineers, I’ll plan on just enjoying the beauty of the wood on my boys bedroom floors!

On the other side of their beds is a nice little galley of play area as well…now that I’ve relocated their dresser…

…into one of their closets!  It was a perfect fit, depth, width, and height!  I’ve been working through cleaning and sorting their closets…in case you’re wondering about the excess hangers.  When my kids were instructed to start wearing a school uniform, I felt empowered to start ditching some of the clothes in their closet I knew they’d never wear.  Now I need to give myself permission to part ways with some of the excess hangers!

We’re glad you stopped by for a visit!

If you keep up with my infrequent posts on Instagram…the boys sharing the same rod in their plenty big closet was to blame for the boys wearing each other’s polo shirts all day at school on Thursday.  Oops!  Big B sported the Muscle Man look, while Baby B was looking like an old man showing chest hair!

Color coded hangers (we use red for our Big B and blue for our little B) – it solves the “whose shirt is whose?” dilemma.
