DIY Headboard with Reclaimed Wood

March 19, 2013 by 23 Comments

Check out this awesome DIY Headboard!  Each of my rooms is decked out with furniture, but maybe I can talk Stud into building onto our home…a guest room!?!?  I love the texture and natural wood tones so much — reclaimed wood totally rocks!

Katie and Micah are very intent on using found and reclaimed materials.  About a year ago they helped their friends refinish their hardwood floors and there were a bunch of boards that were too damaged to be reused.  The extra pieces were too beautiful to throw out so they squirreled them away for later projects.

When Valentines day rolled around Micah had the brilliant idea of using those old floorboards to build this one of a kind headboard for Katie.  She had no idea it was coming so when it magically appeared in their room that weekend, she was such a sap ball.  It is now one of her most prized possessions.

Micah, huge props for being such a talented and sweet hubby!

Katie and Micah are a husband-wife team and their Hartstrings beat for all things creative.  They love good design and incorporating nature into all they create.  They met in church, fell in love on a beach, said “I do” under a willow tree, and have been inspiring each other ever since! Micah taught himself screen printing and carpentry in high school.  Katie learned cardmaking, scrapbooking, and painting (amongst a slew of other random crafts) from her grandmother, Mimi practically since the time she could walk.  You can be inspired by Hartstrings‘ projects…and maybe sneak a picture of their sweet fur baby named Oliver, a french bulldog at some point, too!  Check them out on Flickr and if you’re looking for custom furniture of your own, reach out to them out on Etsy.
