Flashback to June 2013: The last few days of school, Little B seemed under the weather, but with the end of school parties in full swing, she refused to miss a day. The first day of summer finally arrived and after two baseball games — back to back, we went for a swim at a friend’s house. As everyone was splashing in the pool, Little B was curled up on the couch inside. I knew something was seriously wrong.
Our pediatrician is a sweet doctor and really loves her patients, but when your baby is feeling miserable, waiting a full day to get a callback to set an appointment can be frustrating and then when the next available appointment isn’t until the following day — that totally stinks. We watched lots of movies and monitored Little B’s temperature until her appointment. As we sat in the waiting room for two hours the day of our appointment, it was hard not to feel restless. Looking into Little B’s tired eyes and hearing her soft little cough, the momma bear in me began to brew. When your baby is sick, you don’t want to wait days to find a solution. After a few minutes with the doctor, we were sent for chest xrays at the nearby hospital. What I thought was a bad infection was actually Pneumonia.
So weird for her to have come down with Pneumonia in May — but the tests were conclusive. Little B started an antibiotic and her body responded very quickly. The option of trying out Walgreens Healthcare Clinic (a place that is familiar to my children already) seems like a great solution! My first priority is my children and if I can find quality, trusted, reliable medical advice without waiting days or spending hours in a waiting room, I’m totally excited to give it a try! I’m going to call this week and set up Little B’s first appointment at Walgreens. I’d love to get her wellness check-up done in September – her birthday month — our pediatrician is booked until February 2014!
