Remember House #3 — the house we just bought? Today I’m sharing the ugly behind-the-scene Moving Houses pics! I try to keep pictures on my blog pretty because I’m not drawn to ugly magazines when checking out at the grocery store and I know you aren’t either! But moving is messy so after this pretty pool shot (which is my motivation most days) here are a few YIKES pictures in effort to keep things real!
Move-in-day! Obviously a real source of stress for my sweeties! Both the living room and family room have floor to ceiling windows looking out on the pool which is totally tempting!
The night before the movers came we loaded a Uhaul of little items I wanted to move on our own. I was so excited to look in my office closet (one of the few spaces I never peeked at before closing) and find lots of shelves awaiting my Container Store Bins! I will need to rework a few of the shelves, but any opportunity to get things off the floor is a total treat.
The dark walls make the molding pop, but two months of living with the Cocoa Brown walls is starting to drag me down! I’ve been feeling slow and dreary. The impact of color is amazing!
Two things about my new kitchen surprised me.
1. The drawers and cupboards were much dirtier than I found at my Rancher‘s kitchen on move-in day. The old lady at the Rancher should have written a blog on housecleaning because it was immaculate!
2. Even though I moved from 2200 sqft. to 3300+ sqft. this kitchen had far less storage. Remember how Stud built an extra cabinet in the kitchen? He also added a huge pantry in the laundry room (I’ll eventually show you those pics – it was amazing storage). See the “stuff” everywhere? My little mind is spinning with ideas!
I’ve been warned that this little conversation counter would become a total magnet for clutter –
The kitchen has quite a pop of color with texture that protrudes from the wall so far I’m pretty sure it’s going to reach out and grab me.
Main problems in this room: Dark Walls and No Built-in! From experience 1. two story house built-in 2. rancher built-in, I know what I want as my storage solution. It’s tough waiting, but I really want to have a built-in custom made for this space.
In some houses a wet bar works, but the location of this one just doesn’t. Any ideas!?! I’m stewing up a couple creative solutions!
I love the thick crown molding throughout the house! And the fireplace is one of my favorite features — don’t hate me, but the red bricks will have to be toned down when I paint the family room, just like I painted the fireplace in the rancher.
Here’s a little more of the brown in the living room. Were it not for these windows I would feel like I was living in a cave. I’ve lightened these pictures a bit so you can see more detail in the room!
My boys’ room has a nice blue paint color that is actually working with their bedding. Because this room is small, I will eventually give it a roll or two of paint, but for now this is one of the only rooms that isn’t begging for change!
I love that the two boys have a large closet. Boys love caves and this has quickly become their Lego building closet! Watch out mommy when you’re putting away the laundry because those pieces hurt to step on!
Little B’s room is a blank slate ready for some cute girlie touches! If you want to see what we did in her old room you can check out the girl room ideas here!
Their diligence paid off with more fun in the sun!
How am I suppose to get anything done?!
