Decorating Ornaments I Already Have

I’ve been decorating ornaments!  The weather has been overcast and snowy icey in Texas!  I’m bummed that I haven’t been able to share my Christmas House Tour post as I usually do, but it’s still in the works!!!  I’m totally counting on BBB being back in school tomorrow after a nice long four day weather weekend and the sun to start shining through my windows so I can take some pictures to share – I’ve missed chatting about my house lately!   We will be in Kentucky at my sister’s house for Christmas.  Next year I’ll have two trees, this year I’m having fun with one!

I wanted our tree to be whimsical.  Something with color and fun — a focal point that makes us all smile!  Looking at all the ornaments at my usual stops wasn’t working for me so I looked through my attic and found some solid ornaments that I could design exactly as I was picturing.

Paint is GREAT for ornaments, except the dry time is a little time consuming!  I am all about great, fast results!!!  Oil-Based Paint Sharpies are incredible!!!

I added red polka-dots to my glossy white ornaments.

And white polka-dots to my glossy red ornaments.

Totally smudge free and definitely the perfect whimsical touch my tree was needing!!!  It’s hard to find ornaments that aren’t overly fussy, but aren’t totally lame and boring!

My living room is decorated in black, white and blue, so this year I decided to match it with my holiday color palette. Since I had no black ornaments, I spray painted some plain ball ornaments I had, then added while polka dots. Similar effect as to yours, but different application. For mine, I found a small doo-dad around the house that was in the shape of a circle, but had a stem on it. I dipped the circle part into white paint and dabbed it all over the ornament. They are so adorable. Here’s a link to my holiday decor post if you’re interested:

I love the polka dots. They are almost a little bit like toad stools. Love that 🙂

  5. What a great idea, they look really sweet personalised like that. While the snow is keeping you inside over there, we are getting ready for a heat wave here in Perth!
