Valentines Craft with LOVE Printables

January 13, 2014 by 4 Comments

Helping me kick off my new series, A Craft Made by You is my sweet friend, Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog!  Despite all of the hearts and ‘L-O-V-E’ splashed all over her canvas it was actually not originally intended for Valentines Day.   She decided to jump on the ‘word of the year’ bandwagon, choosing a word to represent the goals and attitude she wanted to have in 2014 and decided on ‘Love!’  Take it away Abby…

Valentines Craft

I want to be intentional about showing love to those around me, even when {or especially when} it’s hard; I thought that creating a reminder of that goal to place in my home would help me renew my intention over and over again. Aaaaaannnnd it just so happened that my little reminder turned out pretty Valentines-y as well! Two birds with one stone, right?

HERE’S WHAT I USED:

• 11″ x 14″ canvas
• Scrapbook paper in pink, purple, and blue
• Heart punch
• Mod podge and brush
• “L-O-V-E” bunting – FREE printable – below
• Thin white ribbon
• Hole punch
• Hot glue gun

The first thing I did was punch out a million hearts from my pieces of scrapbook paper. (Well, at least it felt like a million!) I wanted my canvas to be predominantly pink, so I used about 1 1/2 sheets of pink paper and 1/2 sheet each of blue and purple.

Next I simply used the mod podge to adhere the hearts to the canvas. I put a thin layer on the back of the heart, placed it on the canvas, and put another layer of mod podge over it. I did the first layer of hearts…

Then I filled in most of the gaps with another layer. I placed the hearts randomly, trying not to have too many of the same color together.

Next it was time to design my banner. I just created it in Microsoft Word and printed it out on white card stock.  And I’m giving it to you so you can have a cute little ‘love’ banner too — see below!  I cut out my banner, punched holes in the corners, and laced the ribbon through, tying bows at the ends. I then used my hot glue gun to put dots of glue on the back of each bow and adhere it to my canvas. I was done!

I love that I now have a reminder of my word for 2014 AND {bonus!} it can also double as Valentine’s Day decor! Win-win!
