Hip Traditional House Tour

Ready for another Dreamy Dwelling Home Tour!?!  Elizabeth from the little black door talks about everything from the old grandma cottage she’s turned into the hip home of a young family, to the designers and projects that inspire her.  While her style has traditional roots, she loves nothing more than messing with tradition.  She says color is the root from which all goodness flows and is a sucker for a room that feels familiar, but looks unique.  I am at awe of Elizabeth’s home — check out this Hip Traditional House Tour!

Hip Traditional House Tour - 03The whole house was covered in several layers of Golden Girls peach, so painting made a huge difference right off the bat. I love to take old furniture and give it new life, which I did by reupholstering an old loveseat and our two barrel chairs.

The dining room is used everyday for everything from school work and art projects to dinner and snacks. I’m lucky to have an old church pew from my great grandfather’s church which is great for packing a lot of kids around the table.Hip Traditional House Tour - 10

Every room in our home is washed in color, and the bathroom is no exception. I had a shower curtain made for our bathroom so that we could take it all the way to the ceiling to make the small space feel bigger.Hip Traditional House Tour - 13

My girls helped to pick out the colors and the fabrics used in their room and it is one of my favorite spaces in our home. The gallery wall is full of projects that we’ve done together and other special things that always jog good memories.Hip Traditional House Tour - 16

With a major reno several years down the road still, I’ve done little things to refresh our kitchen like displaying my blue and white collection on the open shelves we installed and creating a blue and white rug to brighten up the floor.

Even the basement gets a punch of color against crisp white walls. We recently ripped up the carpet in the basement during a room overhaul and  so I painted the floors and the stairs to add some character to an otherwise boring basement space.
