Ready for another Dreamy Dwelling Home Tour!?! Jana Bek is an interior designer who specializes in E-design, ultra affordable interior design done through Facetime, phone, & email correspondence. She started in product development in fashion at Macy’s & Henri Bendel; she enjoyed it but wanted to design something more lasting – she had always loved interior design so she went to Parsons, worked for the amazing Caitlin Wilson of Caitlin Wilson design & as a buyer at One Kings Lane, then launched her own company. She now lives in Ann Arbor Michigan, but today we’re peeking back at her Tiny Stylish Studio — love it!
I so loved my NY apartment because it was the first time I ever bought “real” furniture & I definitely practiced patience when pulling it together. Since we were on a budget – the space is a mixture of high/low (which I love, it makes for a layered look) so an Ikea console stands next to a Saarinen coffee table, with plenty of One Kings Lane & Etsy scores throughout.
Since our apartment was such a small space (500sq ft.), I decided to set it up like a hotel room in that, we didn’t want to tuck our bed away – it’s was an open layout so everything was welcoming – when we entertained, friends sat at the end of the bed, we pull out the stools; it allows us to maximize the space and entertain with ease.
Some other fun facts about my apartment:
The gallery wall took patience because I wanted to find pieces I loved – when I was a buyer at One Kings Lane – John Derian made an exclusive collection of prints – I was obsessed with every one! Also, I made the peacock print that is on my gallery wall & now sell prints of it!
The couch was custom made by Mary McDonald (not for me!) I purchased it in a One Kings Lane Tastemaker Tag sale. The floral vintage bark cloth pillows were the inspiration for the palette of the room, another fabulous Etsy find; unfortunately I bought everything she had.
Finally, my favorite item has to be my brushstroke lamps because I painted them myself & now sell them upon request & to my clients in custom colors!
I love so many of my past projects! One would have to be my Philly clients’ Master Bedroom because I love the balance of shocking orange with the lightness of the space. It’s bold & serene at the same time.
Another would be my Wichita Falls client’s home because the palette was right up my alley! I’m a sucker for coral & aqua (if you couldn’t tell by my apartment)!
Thanks to Erik Melvin for the lovely photographs! Isn’t Jana amazing!?! What inspired you most?!?
