Super Easy DIY Canvas Art

May 5, 2014 by 6 Comments

Today, we have another great craft in our series, A Craft Made By You.   April from House by Hoff, is here to share a tutorial for a super-easy piece of art!  — She says, ‘I’m not an artist, in fact the last time I painted on a canvas was in college.’  Prepare to be impressed!

I had to take a studio art class to get my Elementary Education degree.
I naively thought it would be easy and fun.
It wasn’t.  It was SO HARD! My teacher was pretty tough, so it ended up being one of the harder classes I took!  I shook off my bad memories of art class and dove right in at creating a unique piece of art!
1)  I started off by using a pencil, yardstick and level to draw perfectly straight lines down my canvas.
2)  Using a parallelogram shape that I created using my Silhouette Cameo, I started drawing the slanted lines at random intervals.
3)  Using acrylic craft paint, I started painting in the slanted shapes {again at random intervals}.  I chose colors that I thought would look good with our existing decor…that’s the great part about creating your own artwork!
4)  Tada!  I was so happy with the finished result!

It has such a modern and colorful look!

I currently have my artwork displayed in my daughter’s play space.
I’d like to think that my art professor would give me anA on this…
but then I’d just be fooling myself, now wouldn’t I?
