I am so excited to have found your photo class. I am way behind ,but will try to catch up. I have had a Nikon 40 for a few years . It has taken many wonderful pics of my grandchildren in auto. But I know it can do so much more and I feel like I want to take this camera out of auto and see what we can do together.
ReplyDeleteSo Thanks for this opportunity. Teresa

DeleteI am jumping in with a late start, as well. I have just upgraded from a Rebel to a Nikon D7000 (totally intimidating). Looking forward to learning more!! ~ May
ReplyDeleteSO FUN!!! I'm excited for your upgrade! I hear you on intimidating first impression...you'll get it though May! Take a pace that works for you with learning and don't feel rushed!!! We're here if you have any questions along the way!!! XO, Aimee
DeleteAimee, I was reading a little about your "story"...I am also a stay at home of 3 kiddos. :)
DeleteOk, so on Friday 2 Aperature, I don't know how to get my ISO setting to auto. When double checking my White Balance & ISO, it says the WB is in auto, but not the ISO. Any idea on how I can change that? ~ May
ReplyDeleteMay...I'd love to help! Which camera do you have!?!? XO, Aimee
DeleteI have a D7000.
DeleteGreat! That's similar to mine. Here's the way to change it. Let me know if you have any further questions. XO, Aimee
DeleteSHOOTING MENU > ISO SENSITIVITY SETTINGS > AUTO SENSITIVITY CONTROL - SET TO OFF.
Perfect Aimee! You're a genius!!! Yessssss! (Now to continue with Friday 2)~ Mel
DeleteHi Aimee I have a Nikon d3100. I was just reading the second lesson on Aperture. When I turn the mode dial to A I am unable to switch the ISO to Auto. It states that this is not an option in the current setting. Any suggestions on how I can change this? I have been enjoying your lessons so far.
ReplyDeleteHi Colette, I also have a Nikon D3100.
DeleteIf you select the menu button, then go to shooting menu, scroll down and select ISO sensitivity settings, you'll then see auto ISO sensitivity select that, and change it to on and you should be good to go!
Aimee,
ReplyDeleteI apologize for "lagging" behind lately. First of all I was having some huge issues with internet connection, (had to be rewired) then my camera fell onto a sidewalk and broke my lens. It is being repaired so I will get caught up and send the pictures I promised as soon as i get my camera back!! (I am dying without it!!)
I am new so must come back for more info. I do so appreciate the white balance tip.
ReplyDeleteHi Aimee,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of cameras do you & your husband have? My friend & I are both looking at cameras, and wanting the same brand so we can share lenses, but I'm leaning more toward the Nikon d7000 because of the reviews on less noise at higher ISO settings (I expect to go to 1600 regularly for concerts), and she's leaning more toward the Canon 60D or 7D - flip screen & ease of use I think and possibly the 7D's fps (she's REALLY concerned about fps for her baby son & him possibly playing sports in the future). Lens prices will factor in as well ultimately, but right now, I don't know what lenses we really need to truly compare prices.
We're thinking about starting a photography business doing children's portraits on location indoors & outdoors, but I don't want to limit it to just that. I'm also a Realtor taking pictures of houses (in & out), my husband is an audio engineer so I need to photograph rock concerts, and I want to be able to take pictures of various events such as weddings, receptions, charity events etc. if the opportunity presents itself. Soooo, just kinda curious what you guys use, and maybe what you'd recommend if you're familiar with those cameras. Thanks!
I hope I'm not too late to help! SO sorry! Sounds like you're the photography guru and definitely need a good camera! We read all you mentioned and have double checked our answer. We are a Nikon family, sense you asked specifically! But we like Canon, too! Just depends on what you're needing. For you, hands down, we would suggest, the Nikon d7000, it has 6 frames per second, continuous shooting up to 100 shots! The new EXPEED2 Processor allows you to expand your ISO to 25600, great for your concert shooting! And the 1080p hd video capture is ROCKING! So definitely, this camera would be our recommendation for you!
DeleteOrder the Nikon D7000 body alone and order the Nikon 18-200mm lens separate, this will be best for at the concerts, switching between close up and zoom at events can be a pain.
For prime lenses you have two options. For a business, we recommend the Nikon 24-70mm, but it is expensive -$1900! Crazy, right! For now I would definitely start off with the Nikon 50mm 1.8 as your prime lens {you'll love it} and if your business takes off / makes a bunch of money, upgrade!
Here's a link to our store with the items we recommend for you! XO, Aimee

DeleteLove your camera tips and all your stuff. I especially love your cute shirt you wore in your Christmas pic! As far as photography goes, I've found this guy on line that has videos about all camera's. He's very helpful in knowing how to set your camera. Just google Fro Knows Foto.
DeleteHi Aimee,
ReplyDeleteI have read where you get some sort of credit if peoples buy their cameras and lens's through you. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for me on a lens for a Nikon 80 that would be good for both macro and portrait? I really want to get something that will blue the backgrounds well and give some good bokeh.
Hi Amiee,
ReplyDeleteNow that it will be light outside when I get home from work, I can start reviewing all your photography tutorials and practice, practice, practice. I just joined your site via google +. I hope I did it correctly.
