How To Choose The Right AC Unit For Your Home

An AC unit is a great way to cool your home when it gets too hot or when you cannot open the windows. When shopping for an AC unit there are many things to consider and choices to make in order to get one that is right for you. Not all AC units are created equal, and you want to make sure you get the one that is right for you. Here are a few things to look out for when choosing an AC unit.

How To Choose The Right AC Unit For Your Home

The Place of Manufacture

The place of manufacture is important to consider when purchasing an AC unit. Units that are American made may be more expensive, but they usually have a better warranty and are more reliable. Here are other places to consider:

Mexico

Units made in Mexico are a good choice for affordability. However, you want to check the specifics of the warranty and try to get one that is made in an area with low humidity. This will ensure better performance when running your AC unit.

China

Units from China have been known by some to have issues with certain components not fitting properly or breaking quickly. If you want to choose a unit made in China, check the warranty and read reviews so that you know what to expect with your purchase.

Japan

Units made in Japan are a good choice for those looking at more high-end AC units. They usually have the latest technology, better warranty options, and higher quality components that help them last longer.

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is home to some of the best AC units in the world. Many of them have high energy efficiency and offer a wide variety of features. If you are looking for a well-rounded unit, a UK-made unit may be right for you.

How To Choose The Right AC Unit

The Type of Filter

One of the most important things to consider when choosing an AC unit is the type of filter it uses. Here are the types of filters to consider when choosing an AC unit:

Permanent

Permanent filters are a great choice if you do not mind cleaning the filter each time the AC unit is turned on. They have excellent filtration capabilities but will need to be cleaned often. Some of these units come with a reusable filter that can save you money in the long run. If you don’t want to deal with constantly cleaning the filter, this type of AC unit may not be right for you.

Replacement

Replacement filters are a great choice if you don’t want to spend time cleaning the filter each time the unit is turned on. It is usually as simple as removing and replacing an old filter with a new one. This type of filter usually lasts between two and three months before needing to be replaced.

Electronic

Electronic filters are super easy to clean, as they do not require any physical effort on your part. However, you will need to replace them more often than other types of filters which can lead to higher costs in the long run. They also gather less dirt and dust than other filters, making them a good choice for those with allergies.

The Size of the Unit

Another thing to consider when purchasing an AC unit is the size of the unit. You want to make sure you get one that is the right size for your home. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing the size of your AC unit:

The Size of Your Home

You want to make sure the AC unit you choose is the right size for your home. If it is too small, it will not be able to cool your home properly. If it is too large, it will use more energy than necessary and may not fit in the space you have for it. A good trick to help determine what size unit will work best in your home is to add up all of the square footage of your home and divide by 2000. This should give you an idea of what size unit you need for your home.

Interior Space

You also want to consider the interior space of your home when purchasing an AC unit. Some units can be installed on the wall or ceiling, while others need to be placed on the ground. If you do not have any room on walls or ceilings, you will need to pick a unit that can be placed on the floor.

Exterior Space

You also want to consider the exterior space of your home when purchasing an AC unit. Some units need to be placed a certain distance away from the house, while others can be placed right next to it. Make sure you have enough space outside your home to install the AC unit before you make your purchase.

The SEER Rating

Another thing you want to consider is the SEER rating of your new AC unit. SEER, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating, measures how much energy the air conditioner uses during its average usage throughout an entire year. The higher the number, the better it is for you and the environment.

The Amount of Noise

When choosing an AC unit, it is important to consider the amount of noise it produces. With some units, you may not be able to carry on a conversation outside while others may make it difficult for those inside to hear each other. You do not want an AC unit that makes it impossible to talk with people in the same room as you. When you shop around and compare different units, be sure to ask about the noise level so you can make the best decision for your home.

The Cost of Installation

Another thing you will need to consider when purchasing an AC unit is the cost of installation. Some units are easier to install than others and may require less time or effort. If you are not comfortable installing the unit yourself, you will need to hire a professional to do it for you! This can add to the cost of the unit.

Choosing an AC unit can feel overwhelming with the number of different units available. When you are comparing different units, keep in mind these main factors: the place of manufacture, size, type, noise level, interior and exterior space, and SEER rating. This will help you choose a unit that works best for your needs and your home.
