House Tour – Clean Cottage Decor

June 27, 2013 by 14 Comments

Don’t you just LOVE a Beautiful Home Tour!  Courtney is a newlywed with a passion for decorating and antiquing.  Right now her and her husband live in a tiny apartment on the second story of an old home. What her house lacks in space (it’s around 900 square feet) it makes up for in charm.   Thanks for walking us through your beautiful home Courtney —

Tour House: Clean Cottage Decor

We love the details and character found only in old homes, and have loved making this small space our own. We have just begun the house hunting process to purchase our first home, but I think we’ll both miss our first little place where we began our life together.  I would describe my decorating style as “clean cottage,” as I love character, charm and antique details, but I also appreciate clean lines and no frills decor. I absolutely love decorating with white and neutrals to create an airy, calm, inviting palette. My favorite look is a bit of cottage, French and farmhouse mixed together.

Our living room is the room I redecorate most frequently, as it’s fun to change things out with the seasons. I work full-time doing communications, but on the side I’m also an antiques dealer, selling out of a local boutique. This means I have an ever-changing collection of vintage and flea market finds to create new looks with, which is so much fun.

To add dimension to this room, I incorporated many architectural salvage pieces like old doors and windows.

Almost all the accessories in our home are flea market or antique store finds. Most every weekend you can find me scouring the latest market or second hand store for that unique piece. We can’t paint our apartment, and the limited space makes new furniture or layouts a challenge, so I rely on accessories and smaller details to change the look of our home and make it feel unique while we are renting.

The sofa was bought at Goodwill and covered in white slip from Target. The two club chairs came from One King’s Lane, and the coffee table from JC Penney. Most everything else in the room is vintage.

I recently added a few pops of blues and aquas to our living room to get it ready for summer, repurposing accessories I already had around the house.

Our bathroom is such a charming little space. I love the original tile and painted beadboard.

With virtually no bathroom storage, this tall glass-front armoir from Target adds the perfect place to keep all our necessities.

Our hall linen closet provides a lot of storage in a small space, and it houses everything from books and magazines to cleaning supplies and party decor.

I also have an extensive collection of kitchen linens, which are stored in various baskets here. It makes for a pretty way to keep everything neat and organized – key when you’re living in a small space!

Our little kitchen has tons of light from three large windows, and I love the original hardwood floors. We installed the white shelves when we moved in for added storage and display space.

The vintage white church pew is one of my very favorite finds, and it creates an ideal breakfast nook. It was scored at a local antiques show for only $69!

Our bedroom is probably my favorite room in the house. It’s just a soothing, calming place to relax and unwind. It’s done in whites, grays and silvers and the color palette always calms me after a long day.

We bought the bed when we were married, and the white dressers are from my childhood bedroom. I recently added the two French leaded glass windows to either side of the bed and I love that the latticed look compliments our bed frame.

This little vanity is tucked into one corner of the bedroom, and it’s perfect for housing all my make up and hair products.
