DIY Desk Organization {Mason Jars}
January 22, 2013 by Aimee • 37 Comments
While shopping the other day I saw some mason jar candles and it made me smile as I watched every single lady that walked by pick them up and comment on how cute they were. The love for mason jars runs deep in all of us! I have tons of mason jars and as I’m working on new storage solutions, a Mason Jar DIY Desk Organization seemed perfect {and ended up being super EASY, too}.
I mapped out my hot glue gun path in the picture below. I secured the bottom row with rows of hot glue holding together the touching sides. Then, I spread a line of glue on top of the mason jars and secured the top row. Shocking how well these stick with five rows of hot glue…even crazier…they’re as good as new when you use some effort, pull them apart, and remove the glue.
UPDATE: Be careful when moving them around…for a more permanent adhesive, use Platinum Bond Glue – it has amazing bonding powers for gluing glass.
And here it is…sitting pretty on my desk…organizing my pens, pencils, markers, and binder clips! LOVE! I especially love that I used my Simple Tutorial for tinting bottles and jars with 3 Ingredients for a fun pop of aqua color in the mix!
Curious about how I painted the houndstooth stencil in the background…check it out!

If I had room for one more thing on my desk, this would be it.
Love mason jars, especially those old blue Ball jars!
Great idea, Amy!
Very clever, especially mixing it up with the blue!
I just canot get enough of Mason jars, and I love this idea, Aimee! So cute.

Omg…I have left over mason jars from the holidays and I am totally stealing this idea! {is it stealing if I tell you? Lol}
I am using a couple of mason jars in our bathroom, to hold toothbrushes/paste and cotton balls/pads/qtips. The coloring of the jars is terrific
Amy,
This is really clever and I love that you used Mason Jars. They are one of my fav vintage things and this is great. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

This is So great. I used these jars for a little while standing up to organize desk bits, but found it inconvenient. Never once did I think to simply turn them on their sides. Thanks so much.
Great idea!
These are great! I have TONS of mason jars and they are just taking up space. This would be cute to mod podge paper or materials to, also!

Oh my gosh – I really love this. I’m definitely in a mason jar craze right now, and this is so cute. I’ll bet that visually, it takes up less room on your desktop since it’s clear — LOVE the idea! Thanks for the inspiration.
I try to keep my desk area organized and neat. I love this idea. The mason jars are such a pretty way to store things and the one aqua jar adds just the right pop of color. Thanks for sharing.

So smart Aimee! Pinned!
Glue bottom row of jars to a piece of wood = sturdier and mobile too!
Great idea! XO, Aimee
